Very interesting post. I’ll be spending more time with certain areas. Well done and good luck with your work.
great information, thanks for the sharing, i love this post, so helpful for me
please see my blog
I have only seen this system in the USA so far and one time I actually got chosen. It is your lucky day, the security guy said. :)
All that really is happening is another guard is off to the side and has a little switch in which he decides which light goes on. He profiles the customer then chooses to search them or not.
I really don't know but I guess luggages goes through this xray thingee and then they manually check it again. I don't get what's with the random.
The button will either light up a Green or Red light. Green means go and red means you got chosen at random for more screening.
this is true, the security is very important, with good security tourism will fell safety when come to the airport.
You're absolutely right, airport security and TSA are just a joke, they're simply an ineffective and unconstitutional invasion of privacy.
Funny! I have only seen this in Mexico, but what if someone is manipulating the light? :) You are absolutely right, though. The "random" searches can be not-so-random at times.
People are picked up randomly in my country. It depends upon the security officers whom to search. The button system in Mexico may or may not work. Only time will tell!
Lets see.
The green/red light sounds like a good idea. But I do think that there should be a certain amount of profiling...the problem with this is that this can be abused, which gives it a bad name.
Rather than safety these checks are trouble for me nowadays. And airport staff sucks!!
Thats quite unique and innovative.
Of course that security is a concern for all countries but some of them are very poor in concept and they can be tricked. That's why they always want to improve the equipments and also the methods.
I've been in airports all over the U.S. but have never seen a system like this...maybe we have to catch up to this one.
Suspicious subject are being searched at the airport. Security have there own thoughts about who is suspicious and who is not.
It is my first time to hear that there is such system in airport.
Great idea, really makes things random and people won't complain about it anymore... Either that or have someone watching on camera to determine "red" or "green"...
It is my first time to see such system as well.
I've never seen that, but random checking like that seems like a waste of time and money to me.
Damn., Random screeners are annoying. System such like mexico's random generating through pushing its button is further annoying. :)
On one hand ... Thers no such thing as random.
On the other it sure beats having to worry about racial profiling. I'd rather be subject to psudo random then profiling any day.
Wonder when N. America will catch up, sounds like mexico has figured it out.
It's the word "random". I have another word for it... "bullshit."
Have the Mexicans go crazy ??
I always find the security at airports so scary.
What if someone planted something on you or something? You would probably be shot.
Thanks for a great blog.
super
I don't think profiling by "random" in the states is really, truely, random. I believe that the airport security is forced to search certain races and ages according to protocol. I think a system like the one described in your blog would be immensely more fair. Although, I personally have never seen one of these machines
Sounds fair to me. But lets be honest... the airport security guards in the US don't want the searches to be totally random... I'm sure this idea has popped up before and been rejected. That's all I'm saying.
I just got back from a trip to Las Vegas and thank goodness I never got searched at the airport (knock on wood). I know some who have though and it sounds really awful. The whole cavity search thing? OMG EWWWW.
i haven't seen them, but is sounds like a non sense. Profiling makes more sense to me
Seems like a good and fair way to deal with airport security, although with new biometric scanning it will be a lot easier to screen passengers.
I absolutely love that idea. No better way to be assured that it really *is* random. My father is of middle eastern descent (his father was born in Syria, although my dad was born in Philly). He is pulled over for "random screenings" in the airports every time. Worst part is -- they were even rougher if he had a mustache at the time!
Haven't seen these yet, but that does seem like a really good idea-especially since so many people are "lawsuit happy" these days!
Some usefull information for those traveling to Bucharest.
